As 2013 comes to a close, we find ourselves looking forward to the new vehicles for the 2015 model year. Just this month, GM announced their upcoming four-wheel drive, pursuit-rated 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV). The upgraded Tahoe PPV will offer a number of new features, including GM’s 5.3-liter, V-8 EcoTec3 powertrain engine, electric power steering, increased payload for police gear and body-on-frame construction.
EcoTec3 Engine
The EcoTec3 engine offers 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque, and uses direct injection, cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing to manage torque and efficiency. The 2015 Chevy Tahoe PPV will feature a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission, which will be calibrated specifically for police operations.
Redesigned to Improve Safety
The upgraded interior of this new Tahoe PPV will include GM’s OnStar telematics service (now standard), a backup camera, rear-park assist, and optional adjustable pedals to accommodate different drivers.
Future Availability
The four-wheel-drive, pursuit-rated 2015 Chevy Tahoe PPV will be available by July 1, and the two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive special service versions will be available by April 1.
To support this future vehicle, Havis will be developing products specifically designed for the 2015 Chevy Tahoe PPV. And while a standard 730-CAA auxiliary battery will power mission-critical equipment like police radios, laptops or tablets, and video cameras, departments can always add the Havis ChargeGuard® Auto Shut-off Timer for backup battery protection.
